Episode 124: #pfSewPrecious Intro

124 #pfSewPrecious Intro

July sponsor: Made By Rae, $50 gift card!!!

Catch Up:

Jenny:  Oh, my gosh.  I”m moving, and making plans for how to sew through the stash I’ve brought with me.  In packing things up, it feels like I’ve downsized to just my special fabrics, the ones I really love – but there are dozens and dozens of those.  So… how to tackle sewing in a much smaller space is the question of the month for me.

Beverly: Plans!  I want to make a few hip length tops for summer.  I have several Ashton tops, but I’m looking for something a little more interesting.  Anyone have good ideas for me? I like Boho styles, looking for sleeveless or short sleeves.

I need to know more about what counts as Boho. I think the Made by Rae Ruby Top is lovely – and sleeveless but easy to add a cap or ruffled sleeve to. I also really like CaramiyaMaui’s Dragonfruit as a top.  I think you’d enjoy the CaramiyaMaui Yesterday Dress as a top – either with or without the yoke.

New patterns:

Peppermint Rozelle Slip dress – new Aussie designer

Up to 60” hip, pay what you want starting at $5.

Made in collaboration with Stitched for Good’s Annie Robinson, the Peppermint Rozelle Slip is a bias-cut beauty – a sophisticated slip dress with wide-set straps to support those whose busty bounty cannot forgo the support of a brassiere. Gathers in the bust and smart darts in the back create a shapely, self-lined bodice, and the bias-cut skirt drapes like a dream – vary the length of your skirt to go from date-night diva to preppy picnic perfection. Just whip up the invisible centre-back zipper and va-va-voom your way to carefree elegance.

Lore Piar Vero Swimsuit – up to 75” hip, two heights 5’1” and 5’7”

The VERO Bathing Suit is an innovative design, 100% seamless, and without an elastic bathing suit, with a plunging ‘’V’’ halter neckline with a backless design.

You don’t need a sewing machine to make it and it is fully reversible.

It has small cuts, strategically placed, at the center front and at the sides, and ties to fit it to your taste and needs.

Deer and Doe Camelia Blouse – up to 60” hips

Oversized blouse featuring short sleeves and a polo placket. Version A: cap sleeves. Version B: ruffled sleeves.

Deer and Doe Eucalyptus Jumpsuit

Button-front jumpsuit featuring a Cuban collar and open back. Version A: sleeveless jumpsuit. Version B: short-sleeve romper.

Sew Over It Zahra Swimsuit –

#pfSewPrecious

This month we challenge you to sew your precious fabric!!!  It is a shame to let it stay in the stash instead of on your body!

What does precious fabric mean to you?  What might qualify here?

  • Vintage linens
  • Vintage fabrics
  • Remaking something precious (a wedding garment, or something that belonged to a relative
  • Expensive (where do we draw the line on cost per yard?)
  • Rare, or OOP
  • Handwoven
  • Fancier-than-usual fiber

Beverly: I am going to use the beautiful hand woven fabric that Jenny gave me as a gift!  She gave me 4 yards so I would have plenty to make something lovely to wear.  I have felt like I can’t cut into it for fear that I won’t do it justice!  Leaving it in my stash is so much worse!

Jenny:

I think I’m going to try and use up my precious linen scraps and make some scrappy dresses!

Hello folks!
Enjoying the podcast, thank you.
A q for Jenny please. Did you try your swimsuit in the water? I’m an avid swimwear maker and my instinct was this was a beach suit rather than a swim suit …..mostly coz of the movement at the ties when the fabric is wet ?
Thanks so much
